I have thought of my depression as many things – but beautiful monster is not one of them. Heavy wet blanket, suffocating fog, 200-pound weight on my chest – those all fit the bill. Monster... maybe. But beautiful?

We are vulnerable to the chaos of the universe, and we all know someone who has that Bad Thing happen to them out of nowhere. Maybe it's happened to you. No wonder then, we create some ironclad mindsets and attitudes to defend against feeling vulnerable.

In the series and in the books, powerful technology is guided by and interfered with by our human emotions, mistakes, and life-saving flights of fancy.

It’s not just that the fixation on metrics misrepresents the success or not of a project, person or department. It’s also that the application of numbers-based outcome measurements is a kind of laziness.

Perhaps this is the lighthouse of RADIO SILENCE - shining: don’t stay still, move; don’t be alone, connect; don’t be silent, speak, sing, weep, mourn, rage and wail.

Human intelligence is not binary, either/or, left/right. It's a both/and swirl of multiple possibilities, seeming contradictions, and surprise.
